Me on the farm

Thanks for visiting! I’ve worked on a couple organic vegetable farms and always wanted a quick reference for any bugs that I would discover. I couldn’t find anything that I would use so I created this website. I’m in the process of adding features and illustrating more bugs. Please let me know what you think.

  1. Can you contact me? I’m writing a small piece on gardening apps for Popular Mechanics (on a short deadline, naturally), and looking for one more to add to the mix. Would love to know more about your plans to expand and build the app.

    • Thanks for commenting Fiona. My plan is to have a pretty major update(v3.0) by February. Twice as many bugs and a filter similar to the one on the website.

  2. cool pics and a great prize too. You showed a weed app that I checked out, but I now I can’t find it. Is it published yet?

  3. Beautiful work. As a trained biologist I find things like this an incredibly great addition to my gardening experience. You’ve highlighted the fun thing about pests… learning how amazing they are. Then comes the hard part, figuring out how to move them out using organic methods and doing the work.

  4. Your app looks like a wonderful resource to help us sort out the good bugs from the bad. The weed app sounds great too!

  5. I’m in love… With this site! Just what I needed. Always photographing bugs/;larvae and wondering what they are, beneficial or otherwise. Awesome. Thank you thank you! And oh please won’t you make the App for Droid as well :) Pretty Please?

  6. Justin – I would be very interested in helping you with this website/app, and any others. I am an expert on insects and other arthropods and have created content for other websites. Learned of this site via Facebook, by the way, as one of my friends “shared” it. Keep up the good work!

  7. Hi Justin – I think I emailed you in December regarding the availability of our school farm land, so this email is just a follow-up to see if you are still interested. We are returning to school this week after a 24 day holiday break, so I am just now getting back into the swing of things and follow-up with interested farmers. The farm land is still available. Our primary garden coordinator and 6th grade teacher at Candy Lane is Keely Rock. She and I would like to meet with interested parties in the next two weeks to discuss possible plans you have for the land. We are VERY open to ideas at this point, i.e., CSA, growing for restaurants, growing for farmer’s markets, etc.. We just ask that whoever works the land uses organic, sustainable practices.

If you are interested in meeting, please feel free to email and we can set up an appointment with you. Our best times are M-F between 2:40 and 3:10 or possibly a weekend slot.

Thank you Justin. Look forward to hearing from you.
